In The Winchester Mysteries: The Missing Necklace chapter 5 we meet Zip, Mrs. Winchester’s energetic pet dog. In The Winchester Photo Album at the front of The Missing Necklace, you can see a very old portrait of the real-life Zip.
There is another animal character in the book, Lulubelle, the gentle cow who we met in chapter 3. Lulubelle needs a portrait too!
Materials:
- Drawing paper or sketchbooks
- Colored pencils, crayons, or markers
- Reference images of a cow (optional)
Instructions:
- Introduction: Look back at the portrait of Zip in The Winchester Mysteries Photo Album section of The Winchester Mysteries: The Missing Necklace. Then talk about what we know about Lulubelle the cow. What color is she? What is her personality?
- Reference Images (optional): Look at some pictures of cows in books or online. Describe the cows in the pictures. What things would be important to include in your portrait of Lulubelle?
- Drawing Time: Use colored pencils, crayons, or markers to draw a portrait of Lulubelle the cow. Use your imagination to create different poses or expressions for her.
- Sharing Time: When you are done drawing, share your portrait with others.
- Extensions: Write a sentence of two telling people about Lulubelle to go with your drawing. If you’d like, draw more animal portraits of characters in the book or your own pets.
